Sofia Penedo works as one of our great team of carers. Moving up to York last year from Ipswich and previously in a mental health care role, Sofia chose to work with Riccall Care because she appreciated our interest in her and the quality of our in-house training facilities.
Sofia is also ambitious and was keen to pass her NVQ III qualification. Professional development is something we promote as a cornerstone of our business and our in-house training team, led by Debora Smith, fully appreciate the benefits of a highly trained and dedicated care team. Debora commented:
“Supporting our carers’ wellbeing and professional development is a key part of our role because we see everyday how this translates into the highest quality of care for our clients. We want more people to be aware that it is possible to gain care qualifications while working.“We are always very happy to support our carers. In Sofia’s case we could help with practice for presentations, use of software like PowerPoint, arranging observations and learning support. Sometimes it’s also about giving someone confidence and allowing them to flourish. It’s a great part of our job. Sofia is a wonderful example to all of us.”
Sofia told us:
“When I arrived in York I applied to join Riccall Care because of the emphasis on good training and the level of support for the carers. It’s important to me that I am with a professional team, delivering good care. Throughout gaining my NVQ the support has been amazing and it’s great to have my professional development recognized with higher rates of pay and the opportunity to become a Care Team Leader.”
Our congratulations to Sofia, we are delighted that her hard work has paid off and look forward to working with her for many years to come.
Sofia undertook her NVQ diploma with connect2care.
